Why church membership?

We believe the Church is central to all God is doing in the world. When you read the New Testament, you see that wherever the gospel of Jesus is proclaimed, people believe, disciples are made, and then new churches are formed. When you put your faith in Jesus, you don’t just get God as your Father, but you are now part of a family, with other Christians as your spiritual brothers and sisters in Christ. You are now part of a larger global Church, lived out in small local expressions, such as Citizens Church Charlotte.

This is why membership is so important. It’s you committing to play your role in the larger family of God through a particular local congregation. We believe every Christian should belong to a local church and take ownership of that church. This includes serving, giving, and participating in biblical community.

Instead of simply attending Citizens Church, members are a part of the Citizens Church family. We offer Membership Classes 3x a year, where you'll learn about the vision and values of Citizens Church, as well as how you can belong in our church family.

Membership Process

Membership is a huge deal for us here at Citizens, so we have a thorough process to make sure everyone understands what is expected from the church and from each individual member.

Steps to Becoming a Citizens Church Member:
1. Take our Membership Class.
2. Fill out a membership application online (emailed after attendance at the class).
3. Meet with a Citizens pastor and sign the Membership Commitments.
4. Be Commissioned publicly into membership at a Sunday Gathering.
